You travel around the world for polo. Which destination has been your favorite? I love playing in Wellington, FL.

Favorite part of playing polo: Without a doubt, the horses.

Favorite thing to do when not on the field: I’m usually in the barn drinking mate.

Favorite song: “Fantasma” by the band Arbol.

If I weren’t a polo player I would be: A futboll player!

Favorite all-time horse and why? My favorite horse is Mona. I played her a lot when I first started the sport so she’ll always be special to me.

Don’t let Victorino Ruiz Jorba’s pop-star good looks fool you, he’s already earned the nickname “El Toro” (The Bull) for being fierce and fast on the field. At the age of 18, Toro already has some major wins under his belt. This past winter he played on Travieso with Tony Calle, Sebastian Merlos and Hugo Barabucci, winning the 20-goal Sterling Cup and the 20-goal Molina Cup at Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, FL. It was his first entry into high-goal polo and he’s ready to compete in the high-goal tournaments this season at Greenwich Polo Club. Toro’s father, Sebastian Ruiz, instilled in him a passion for polo and it was his uncle, former 10-goal polo player Matias Magrini, who took Toro under his wing when they saw that Toro had real potential as a player. For the last three years, Toro has traveled with Matias and his family around the world. When back at home base in Argentina, they all share stables in Cañuelas, Argentina and breed horses. “Toro is like a son to me and it’s great having him travel with his cousins, Santino and Kristos, and watching all of them develop in the sport,” said Matias. “I think playing the 20-goal tournaments with Sebi Merlos this past winter really helped Toro. He’s sharp and learns very fast, and he has great abilities as a player.”
