Joao Paulo Ganon

Age: 39 Home Country: Brazil Team: Postage Stamp Handicap: 7 How many years playing the sport: I played my first tournament I when I was 11. Pre-game ritual: I like to have everything organized the day before a match so when I get there it’s all ready to go. I like to get to the field with good music pumping to help me focus on the game. You travel around the world for polo. Which destination has been your favorite? I love playing at Greenwich Polo Club and Sotogrande in Spain. The Hamptons are great too – I’ve played there quite a few times. Favorite part of playing polo: I love the horses, and the game fascinates me. I can spend hours just watching polo. Favorite local hang-out when playing at Greenwich Polo Club: Walking around Greenwich Ave or having coffee at The Red Barn just up the street from the polo fields. Favorite thing to do when not on the field: Playing soccer! Favorite song: “Na Bahia” (in Bahia) by Yvete Sangalo. If I weren’t a polo player I would be: A polo player. I really can’t imagine being anything else but being a polo player! Favorite all-time horse and why? Yupanqui is my best mare in the U.S., she is fast, stops, turns, and is easy to handle – she is a complete all around great horse. I’ve also admired Adolfo Cambiaso’s Cuartetera and Mariano Aguerre’s Jazz.
